The path to Formula One starts…

Posted in: General|May 10, 2011

If you are anything like me, you will be riveted to this year’s F1 season on the BBC…

This year, for some reason, has taken me back to being a kid – dreaming of being Mansell, wondering if Prost would challenge and trying to figure out how Senna could be so good! At that age I had no idea how these heroes got into the driving seat of an F1 car but the truth is they had to start somewhere…

And when you think about it, it’s obvious that the starting point has got to be karting. In essence it is mini F1 and, in fact, was the starting point for pretty much all of today’s racing heroes. Nowadays the technology and safety is, of course, better than ever and there is no reason why aspiring youngsters can’t at least have the opportunity to try – whether they will be a future World Champion remains to be seen. We developed Race School to enable everyone to find out – regardless of whether they had the budget.

Daytona’s Race School is modular and covers all aspects necessary to take the first steps into competitive junior racing. From safety to cornering, flags to race craft, wet driving to overtaking, the course covers everything a youngster needs to get them started and allows them, upon graduation, to enter our monthly Championship – Inkart.

Tuition is with experienced qualified instructors at the finest kart racing facilities in Europe and young drivers will gain the invaluable knowledge required to become a successful motor racing driver enabling them to climb the ranks.

Drivers such as Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Sam Bird began racing go-karts when they were kids and it goes without saying that many of the top F1 teams keep a close eye on the karting arena to get an early idea of potential superstars. Daytona has successfully trained young drivers to help reach racing classes such as karting championships, Formula Renault, GP2 and even Formula 1 Testing.

If you would like more information about our Race Schools, held during half terms and school holidays at all of our venues, then please contact us.
